For many years the Silver Lady Fund has supported a drop in centre for people who are homeless and rough sleeping. As well as providing food and counselling for those who visit the centres - including support on how to make the transition back into housing – the centre also sends outreach workers onto the streets to seek out and support people sleeping rough.
The initiative has a clever way of maximising on charitable deeds – every year, numerous jumpers and other items of clothing are left at the starting line of marathons and charitable fun-runs. When no-one claims them, these are gathered up and distributed out to the homeless along with sleeping bags and toiletries, giving warmth and dignity to those in need, and maximising the reach of human kindness.
